Waste Wood Scraps Heat
Plant
|
Viking doesn't let anything go to waste, including the
scrap wood left over from the yacht-building process.
Just as our in-house manufacturing capability gives us a
large degree of self-sufficiency, so does our use of
this internally generated fuel source.
Waste wood scraps
gathered manually, along with dust and chips fed by a
vacuum system from saws and planers, are fed through a
chipper, formed into briquettes under high pressure, and
stored in a silo. On demand, the pellets are
automatically fed by conveyor belt to the dual-fuel (oil
or wood) furnace and burned at temperatures of up to
1.200 degrees Fahrenheit, a combustion level which
produces clean-burning methane gas. Water is heated by
this combustion process and then circulates through the
radiant-heat system embedded in the plant's concrete
floor and through wall radiators.
This waste wood
recovery system provides the majority of our heating
needs for the winter, cutting Viking's energy costs and
its costs to build each yacht, all the while saving
precious natural resources. The EPA approves the system,
in use at Viking for over a decade, and it is a very
clean combustion process with little residual ash due to
the high temperatures generated.

Riviera Beach - Striving to be the best!
The mission of the Viking Service Center South in Riviera Beach, Florida, is best described by Lou Correia, general manager of the spanking new $8 million state-of-the-art marine facility. “Our goal is to provide Viking Yacht and Viking Sport Cruisers’ owners with the finest service possible,” says Lou, who also was Viking Yachts’ Production manager from 1989 through 1999.
In addition to handling warranty issues for Viking Yacht and Viking Sport Cruisers, Lou’s staff of 35 is fully equipped to perform propeller, shaft and running gear work, mechanical and electrical repairs, along with fiberglass, gelcoat and bottom painting chores.
A new crane, specifically designed for repower work was recently added to the equipment inventory, which also includes a 150-ton Travelift, 18 deepwater slips, floating concrete docks and a covered building capable of storing boats with tuna towers. A fleet of trucks provides mobile service when needed.
At present, Viking is the only manufacturer in the country with a satellite service facility solely designed to accommodate its owners exclusively. All work is performed according to schedule and appointments should be made through your Viking dealer.
The Viking Service Center South offers first class service and we would not have it any other way.

Full Speed Ahead at the Viking Yachting Center
Renovations are well underway at the Viking Yachting Center on the Bass River bringing the
complex a fresh, modern look. The 32-acre facility was formerly known as the Bass River Marina. At one time it was owned by Bill and Bob Healey, who sold it in 1964 when they decided to go into boatbuilding and formed Viking Yachts. The Healeys repurchased the marina in December 2002.
Located adjacent to the Viking Yacht Company’s New Gretna plant, the sprawling marina features 270 deep-water slips for boats up to 55 feet. In season, popular attractions include a swimming pool and picnic tables creating an inviting environment for family boating activities.
The Yachting Center also houses the offices, showroom and service bays for Atlantic Marine Electronics, a Viking company, which designs, builds and installs sophisticated electronic packages for Viking Yachts, Viking Sport Cruisers and other boats.
The northern branch of Palm Beach Towers (its main facility is at the Viking Service Center South in Riviera Beach, Florida,) has service bays at the Yachting Center for the fabrication of towers and other custom aluminum equipment. This allows Palm Beach Towers to complete work on boats that do not plan to head south.
By the time you read this, Viking Sport Cruisers will be using the Viking Yachting Center for all of its new boat commissioning, service work and winterization, as still another part of the master expansion plan.
Reigning in all of these exciting developments is Gene McCann, who serves as the general manager of the Viking Yachting Center. Gene brings more than 27 years of marine industry experience to the helm, including several years at Viking Yachts, along with tenure at other boat manufacturers and recreational marine retail sales. |
